From “The Drifters”
very first release on Atlantic Records, There Goes My Baby,
they were bound for stardom, with a 2 million seller under
their belts on their first try. Over the next ten years
they had nearly 200 million sales of singles and over 80
million albums sold in the United States alone. Only the
Beatles, the Rolling Stones, the Bee Gees, and Michael Jackson
have sold more over a sustained period of time. “The
Drifters” are famous for such millions selling hits as Under
the Boardwalk, This Magic Moment, Save the Last Dance For Me,
and Up On The Roof. |
"Dom, dom, dom, dom,
dom-dee-doobie, dom......" Probably the most familiar
phrase in all of doo-wop and maybe music from the 1950's.
A phrase created by the legendary Del Vikings -
one of the most successful doo-wop groups of all time.
Unlike many other original groups, the Del Vikings
had two big hits and continued staying power for years.
They recorded dozens of records.
|
With their elegant, intricate and
flawless vocal arrangements, The Flamingos are
widely regarded as one of the best vocal groups in music
history. The graceful vocals and sharp choreography of
Motown’s biggest stars – the Temptations, the Supremes, the
Jackson 5 and the Miracles among them – owe a debt to the
Flamingos. The Flamingos charted nine singles
between 1956 and 1970 and made the Top Ten with "I'll Be Home"
and their biggest hit "I Only Have Eyes For You". |
The
"American Gold Band" is comprised 4 highly seasoned
musicians. Bill Cormier, lead guitar and vocals, Joe
Manchego, bass guitar and vocals, Karl Carrasco, keyboards
and vocals and Jack Cook, drums and percussion. When there
is a need for horns on the gig, the band calls on veteran
saxophonist John Burrola.

The
Burbank Philharmonic Orchestra
was established in 1991 under the direction of
Maestro Kerstein, Conductor and Music Coordinator. After its debut
in 1992, the public fell in love with the Orchestra for its
professional, high-quality performances.
Due to the Orchestra’s initial success, the City of Burbank began
to fund the non-profit organization. By 1994, world-renown
musicians, including violinist Robert Cani and bass baritonist
Richard Bernstein, were featured in Orchestra concerts.
In 1998, the Orchestra
coordinated with the Walt Disney Special Events Group to feature
music from Disney Classics such as “Beauty and the Beast,” “The
Lion King,” “The Little Mermaid,” and “Snow White and the Seven
Dwarfs.”
In recognition of the breadth
and scope of the music performed by the Burbank Chamber Orchestra,
its name was officially changed to The Burbank Philharmonic
Orchestra in 2001.

Papa Doo Run Run
Shake, Rattle & Roll
A Tribute to Elvis: The Early Years starring Scot
Bruce

The year was 1965. The air was clean,
the music refreshingly innocent, and in Cupertino California, a
small, pre-Silicon Valley town near Santa Cruz, 4 high school
buddies got together to form a garage band. That legendary band is
called
Papa Doo Run Run, and is still rockin’ today, 4 decades
later, at over 100 gigs a year, worldwide!
PAPA DOO RUN RUN's forte' is CLASSIC ROCK of the
60's, 70's, and 80's, including their award winning re-creation of
the hits of the Beach Boys. In the early 70's they caught the
attention of surf icons, Jan & Dean and spent the better part of
that decade touring with the duo as their opening act and back-up
band. Papa Doo Run Run also appeared in, and did the
soundtrack album for the CBS-TV movie "Deadman's Curve". Then in
the early 80’s, the band graduated from Jan & Dean to the Beach
Boys and performed and recorded with members of that band for the
next 2 decades. When they weren't performing with J & D or the
Beach Boys, Papa Doo Run Run was the "Celebrity
House Band" at Disneyland, and over that same 2 decades, performed
at nearly every high school and college throughout California.

A
Tribute to Elvis: The Early Years starring Scot Bruce
Los Angeles-based Scot Bruce entertains
fans all over the U.S. and abroad with his unbelievable 1950¹s era
Elvis Tribute Show. Because of his uncanny resemblance to the
young "King" and his ability to sing, strum a guitar, and swivel
his hips, his live show has taken him all over the world to places
like Australia, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia (where he
had the privilege of performing for the King and Queen), Mainland
China, and several countries in Europe and South America.
As Elvis, he has appeared in music videos with Faith Hill
and Sheryl Crow and has been heard as the "Resident Elvis"
with his pals Mark and Brian on their highly rated Los
Angeles morning radio show. Scot has also appeared in recurring
roles on the hit soap operas Days of Our Lives and The
Bold and the Beautiful, a Pizza Hut commercial, the California
Lottery "Elvis" ad campaign, and as the title role in several
successful productions of Idols of the King, including the
historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, the prestigious
Barter Theatre in Virginia, and the Alabama Shakespeare Festival
in Montgomery. Recently, he had the honor of performing with the
legendary Jordanaires (Elvis¹ original backup singers). If
you saw the True Hollywood Story: Elvis in Hollywood on E!
Entertainment Network, that was Scot playing Elvis in the
recreation scenes. He also performs at Disneyland
(California) on a regular basis, and tours with the ŒLegends of
Rock & Roll - Buddy, Roy & Elvis.

TIERRA and EL
CHICANO
|
 |
 |
|
Tierra, the band
named "Best R&B Vocal Group" by four leading magazines
including Billboard. They started their career in East Los
Angeles with a blend of rock, pop, jazz, R&B and salsa. The
result was a Latin R&B rhythm, which produced classics like
"Together", "Gonna Find Her", "Memories" and "Zoot
Suit Boogie". The band's quarter century commitment shows a
dedication that can only be understood by listening to their
smooth and soulful sounds.
Tierra was the
first Latino band to have four songs on the national chart
and two simultaneously in the Top 100. They have
performed in such prestigious shows such as Carnegie Hall,
The American Music Awards, American Bandstand, and The
Dorothy Chandler Pavilion.
Tierra is widely
known to have played a role in opening doors for other
Latino and non-latino superstars of today, including
comedian Paul Rodriguez, Arsenio Hall, Sheila E., Gloria
Estefan, Los Lobos, Latino comic of the year, Rudy Moreno,
and more.
Leader of the band, Rudy Salas
holds the foundation of the group strong as he leads
Tierra into the new millennium. With their new CD,
"Welcome to Cafe East L.A.", a bilingual album “Two
Worlds/Dos Mundos”, and a recently released Greatest Hits
album, this is one band that will not stop!

El Chicano -
making music since the early seventies, when their first
recording of an instrumental song entitled “Viva Tirado”
became an international hit with a unique sound of masterful
B3 organ playing, Wes Montgomery style guitar, and a melodic
music style
surrounded by fiery Latin percussion.
El Chicano
went on to record eight albums under MCA Records, Columbia
Records and the Shadybrook label, and garnered several more
hits over the years that included some excellent vocal
performances while still maintaining their trademark sound.
There are over fifty El Chicano
compilation CDs and their music has been used on several
movie scores and television shows. Over the years, El
Chicano has
continued to travel worldwide and be a part of several
musical projects that have incorporated their unique style.
The group has a tremendous amount of loyal
fans, not only in the USA but worldwide as well, and has
become a mainstay in Latin music, still recording new songs.
At this time, the group is putting the finishing touches on
a project being spearheaded by the original founders of the
band, Freddie Sanchez and Bobby Espinosa. Universal Music is
about to add El Chicano to their 20th Century
Masters - The Millennium Collection, released on the Geffen
label.

ROYAL CROWN REVUE

Often imitated, but
rarely matched,
RCR has pioneered, over its fifteen-year career, a
totally unique sound and style, serving as the blueprint for an
entire generation of musicians and music lovers. This band was and
is the spearheading force behind the "retro style" which has
exploded from underground scene into bona fide cultural
phenomenon.
With a fifteen-year
career and literally thousands of shows under its collective belt,
today's ROYAL CROWN REVUE is a finely tuned alchemy
of jazz and jump, an elegant blend of everything from be-bop to
gut-bucket blues. In addition to Nichols, Dorame, Steen, and
Glass, the current lineup includes three New York jazz veterans:
multi-reed wizard Jim Jedeikin, Mark Cally on guitar, and Dave
Miller on bass. Here for the long haul, it should be readily
apparent to anyone with an eye (and ear) for talent that
ROYAL CROWN REVUE will be integrating our country's
musical past long into tomorrow's musical future.
